This July 27, a Milwaukee airway practice says waking up exhausted isn't just being a sleepyhead - it may be sleep apnea, and there are mask-free fixes.
Milwaukee, WI (PRUnderground) June 24th, 2026

Every July 27, National Sleepy Head Day pokes fun at the last person to drag themselves out of bed. But Untethered Airway Health Center, on Milwaukee’s East Side near Downer Avenue and UWM, is using the day to make a more serious point with a wink: if you sleep a full night and still wake up wrecked, you might not be a sleepyhead at all. You might have sleep apnea.
The Finnish tradition behind the day is all about teasing the household’s heaviest sleeper. The practice’s take: plenty of “sleepyheads” are actually people whose breathing keeps interrupting their sleep all night without them ever knowing it. The result is morning grogginess, daytime fatigue, and a lot of unfair ribbing.
“We love a good Sleepy Head Day, but a lot of people who think they’re just not morning people are genuinely exhausted because of their airway,” said Dr. Meggie Graham of Untethered Airway Health Center. “The frustrating part is how many of them gave up on CPAP and assume there’s nothing else. There is. For mild to moderate sleep apnea, a custom oral appliance is something people actually wear, and that changes everything.”
In honor of the day, the practice is inviting Milwaukee-area adults who snore, wake up tired, or have struggled with a CPAP machine to schedule a consultation to learn whether an oral appliance or other airway-focused option is a fit. The East Side office sees patients Monday through Thursday, with Friday by appointment, and serves the East Side, North Shore, and Southeastern Wisconsin.
So before you throw water on the family sleepyhead this July 27, consider that they might just need a better night’s sleep. To learn more or book a consultation, contact Untethered Airway Health Center at (414) 935-8460 or visit untetheredairwayhealthcenter.com/milwaukee.
