Local HVAC expert shares three simple steps homeowners can take to avoid sudden A/C breakdowns during triple-digit temperatures

With North Texas bracing for triple-digit temperatures and high winds this week, local HVAC professionals are urging Saginaw homeowners to take immediate steps to protect their air conditioning systems. The combination of extreme heat and blowing debris can quickly overwhelm outdoor units, leading to unexpected and costly breakdowns during the peak of summer.

Strong winds can force loose dirt, dust, and fresh lawn clippings directly into outdoor A/C condensers. • Gently Rinse the Coils: Turn off the power to your AC system at the outdoor breaker. Use a standard garden hose to gently rinse away accumulated dirt from the outside coils. Note: Never use a pressure washer, as the high pressure will bend and permanently damage the delicate aluminum fins.
• Replace the Indoor Air Filter: A clean indoor filter ensures optimal airflow throughout the home. Checking and replacing a dirty filter is the easiest and most effective way to reduce strain on your A/C unit.
